I Love You Program
While the physical structure of the Cross will
be a beacon of hope to the many travelers, we believe our
organization will have a unique opportunity to offer messages
and programs of opportunity for daily living. The Cross Foundation
is pleased to announce the "I Love You Card" program.
The premise of "The I Love You Card" is that many
children today never hear the words, "I Love You" from
their parents. In many cases this phrase has not been a part
of the language of families for generations. The Cross represents "I
Love You" in a supreme way. The Foundation's hope is
to carry that message into homes around the world.
The premise of “The I Love You Card” is
that many children today never hear the words, “I Love
You” from their parents. The absence of this phrase
in many families is often the result of this phrase not having
been a part of the language of the family for generations.
We feel the best time to start a new tradition
of language is with the newest families (i.e. Parents of newborns). Hence,
we have created the “I Love You Card”. The “I
Love You Card” is simply a small card given by hospitals
to new parents, which suggests that parents begin a new tradition
of language by saying “I Love You” to their newborn
as they cross the threshold of their home for the very first
time. Further, it suggests that saying “I Love
You” as the first words of the morning, and the last
words at night, will instill a sense of comfort, acceptance
and love in the life of their newborn and the family.
A recent Iowa State study showed that successful
relationships with our spouses are directly related to the level
of nurturing relationship that each spouse had with their parent(s). In
fact, children of single parent nurturing relationships were
more likely to have a quality relationship with their spouse,
than children of two-parent families where nurturing did not
exist. Through the “I Love You Card” we hope
to instill a new tradition of language in the newest of American
families, which ultimately leads to those more nurturing environments.
Several hospitals have adopted the "I Love You Program".
